When The Cranberries released their debut record ‘Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?’ in March ’93, Ireland and England reacted with a shrug, and the band faced a quick end to an expected career. One year later, ‘Linger’ was released in the US, charted at number eight on the Billboard charts, and their world changed within a week. New York was at the centre of that change, and the The Cranberries went on to be one of the most successful Irish bands to ever take a place in America.

The Cranberries songwriter, producer and guitarist Noel Hogan, in conversation with Hot Press’ Stuart Clark, tells the band’s own New York story – a 30-year tale bridging Radio City Music Hall from’ 96 to Irving Plaza in 2007, and through neighbourhoods & boroughs, drawing in world-renowned musicians, songwriters & producers, and on to the life Dolores O’Riordan found and lived in the city.

The conversation will also explore and celebrate the publication of the first career- spanning book about the band, which documents the birth and rise of the band, and includes contributions from Michael Stipe, Stephen Street, author Kevin Barry and Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee.

Noel Hogan

Renowned guitarist, songwriter, producer, the Grammy nominated Noel Hogan taught himself to play guitar at the age of 17. As co-founder and main composer with The Cranberries, Noel Hogan was directly responsible for creating the band’s distinct sound. Some 50 million albums later and numerous songwriting credits, Noel Hogan’s deserved place in rock music history is firmly guaranteed. His considerable achievements have been lauded by awards from amongst others, MTV and Ivor Novello. As part of The Cranberries, Noel honed his own production skills by working with legendary producers Stephen Street (Morrissey, New Order), Cenzo Townsend (U2, Florence and The Machine) and Bruce Fairbairn (Bon Jovi, AC/DC). The Cranberries final studio album In The End was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2020. The band’s video for ‘Zombie’ reached a Billion views on Youtube on April 18th 2020.

Noel has co-produced and co-written work with Bernard Butler (Suede) and Richard Walters (Monoband and Arkitekt). In addition to his phenomenal global success with The Cranberries, Noel Hogan has carved out a growing reputation as a producer and as a solo artiste. Working with Richard Walters and a wide range of vocalists, his critically acclaimed Monoband project released its first recording in 2004. Their eponymous debut was named as album of the week by The Ticket (Irish Times, Dublin) and demonstrates Hogan’s assuredness and versatility as a producer and composer.

Stuart Clark

Stuart Clark arrived in Ireland during the height of the pirate radio wars, then working with Radio Limerick 95FM, before his attentions increasingly turned towards journalism with a well-respected column for the Limerick Tribune. He moved to Dublin in 1990, and rose through the ranks at Hot Press to become Deputy Editor. Apart from his sterling work for Hot Press, he is a regular contributor to Matt Cooper’s The Last Word on Today FM, and as a talking head on various TV3, RTÉ and Setanta Sports TV programmes. His also for various other publications including Food And Wine, TV Now and The Sunday Business Post.
