Brenda Breathnach

Kerry-native Brenda Breathnach has been at the heart of Irish LGBTQ life in New York for three decades, and in 2018 she opened the largest LGBTQ club space in New York, 3-Dollar Bill in Brooklyn’s East Williamsburg. “We are very proud and excited to open our doors and welcome the community into a space that represents our commitment to inclusion and the celebration of queer identity. We are a space for joy. We look forward to providing this unique outlet that will allow everyone to express themselves as their fullest, most genuine, selves”.

Her unlikely journey from Irish immigrant to night life impresario began in 1994, when she left Dingle to work with her brother at a pub in the Bronx called An Beal Bocht, where she stayed for a decade. She then bought and renovated the Pheonix bar in the East Village, and eventually went on to search for a bigger place.

Working with two business partners, she came across a former brewery on Meserole Street. Though her partners thought the space was too big and needed a daunting amount of work to get it up to code, her enthusiasm won them over and they signed a 25-year lease. After a two-year gut renovation, a new sound system and lighting, 3 Dollar Bill opened to great success last year.
