Caoimhe Forde is originally from County Kildare. After graduating from NUIG, she relocated to New York for a lecturing position at Fordham University. Caoimhe currently teaches a variety of undergraduate courses including Irish language cinema and Irish language literature and history at the Institute for Irish and Irish-American Studies, Lehman College, City University New York. Her current research focuses on the Irish diaspora in the US and UK during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Caoimhe has also taught Irish language and literature courses at Manhattan College, Irish Arts Center and Rosetta Stone.
In 2015, Caoimhe featured in ‘GAA USA’, an IFTA nominated documentary series, which traces the development of the Gaelic Athletic Association in the US. She is also a board member of Gaeil Nua-Eabhrac, a non-profit organization which promotes the Irish language and culture in New York. Gaeil-Nua Eabhrac events and achievements were highlighted in a 2018 TED Talk.
Caoimhe was elected to the board of Irish Network NYC in 2018 and re-elected as Co-Chair in January 2019. The Irish Network NYC is a leading community of young professionals in New York City. Comprised of Irish nationals, Irish-Americans and friends of Ireland, this dynamic and vibrant organisation enhances the communities in the greater New York area by facilitating Irish and Irish-American cultural, social, philanthropic and professional networking events.
To date, the Irish Network NYC have collaborated with the Irish Consulate in New York, Irish Repertory Theatre, The Irish Echo, Irish Arts Center, Conradh na Gaeilge, New York Irish Center, Citi Field (Mets Baseball Stadium), Manhattan Gaels, Irish Screen America, New York Irish Whiskey Festival, The Pond Theatre Company and Bank of Ireland Startlab, to name but a few.
In her role as Co-Chair, Caoimhe has developed a mentorship program for young Irish Network NYC members, which will launch in November. She recently graduated from LEAP™, Leadership & Executive Acceleration Program, an Irish International Business Network initiative for Irish and Irish-American female professionals, funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
