There are three key airports for accessing Limerick from overseas; Dublin International Airport (200km), Cork Airport (100km) and Shannon International Airport (24km). Details of each airport, and connections to Limerick, are below.
Shannon International Airport
Shannon is extremely convenient for those traveling by air to I.NY. It is approx. 24 km from the city and scheduled flights are available from many UK, European and US destinations, including New York. For more details please see: shannonairport.ie
From Shannon Airport to Limerick City
Bus Eireann operate two services that connect Shannon Airport with Limerick (No. 51 and No. 343). Both services stop at Limerick City Bus Station (at Colbert Train Station)
The No. 51 departs every hour from 08:50 until 21:50 The No. 343 departs every hour from 06:00 to 20:00. Subsequent buses every hour from 21:15 until 24:00. Please check the Bus Eireann website before you travel to check your journey times and suitable departures.

Taxi services from Shannon Airport to Limerick University cost approximately €45 and to the city is approximately €35. If you would like to pre-book a taxi we suggest contacting Plassey Cabs and they will be happy to arrange that for you. They will also arrange for fare sharing if you state that you are willing to share the trip with others. Dublin International Airport
Although further away than Shannon (approx. 200 km from Limerick), Dublin Airport is served by flights from over 100 European and International airports.
Reaching Limerick from Dublin Airport
J.J. Kavanagh & Sons run regular services between Dublin Airport and Shannon Airport, which stop at the University of Limerick Main Entrance.
Dublin Coach run an hourly express service from the Red Cow LUAS stop to Limerick City, which also stops at the University of Limerick. The same company run a connecting service from Dublin airport to Red Cow LUAS.
Bus Eireann 12 service connects Dublin Airport and Limerick City Centre, leaving from Atrium Road and terminating at Limerick City Bus Station.
Eir Eagle run a service between Dublin Airport and The Hurlers Pub, Castletroy (about a 20 min walk from the University). These coaches run every two hours from 07.15 – 23.59.
Trains to Limerick city depart from Dublin Heuston Train Station, which is connected to the airport by the Airlink bus service. Every hour from 07:00 to 21:00
The distance from Cork to the University of Limerick is approx 100km. Scheduled flights are available from UK and European hubs.
From Cork Airport to Cork
Citylink.ie run buses every 3 hours from Cork Airport stop to Limerick City Centre (Henry Street) from 07.45 – 18.30.The Bus Eireann Buseireann.ie connects Cork Airport to University of Limerick.
Irishrail.ie trains depart from Cork City Centre to Limerick City Centre every hour.
Travel from Limerick City Centre to University of Limerick
The University lies 5 km from the City Centre and is served by the 304 bus routes, which depart from the foot of William Street every 15 minutes.
Taxis are available across the city centre with a large taxi rank outside the Bus/Train Station costing on average €10/€15.
Travelling By Car to University of Limerick
From Limerick City
Take the Dublin Road (N7) out of the city and travel approx two miles to the Parkway roundabout. Go straight through at this roundabout. At the next roundabout, turn left and follow the signs for the University.
After the village of Annacotty, turn right at the first roundabout you meet as you approach Limerick (Sign for the National Technological Park). Follow the road for one mile through the Technological Park until you see the sign for the University entrance on your right.
Please note that parking outside of designated car parks will result in clamping. There is a charge of €25.40 to have the clamp removed.

By Bus & Rail
Colbert Station, on Parnell Street, is the railway station that serves Limerick City. It is also the location of the Bus Eireann Bus Terminus.
The station is the terminus of the Dublin (Heuston)–Limerick, Limerick–Nenagh–Ballybrophy and Limerick–Ennis–Galway lines.
Connections for Cork, Clonmel, Carrick-on-Suir, Waterford and Kerry stations can be made at Limerick Junction, from which you can transfer to Limerick Colbert. A typical travel time from Dublin (Heuston) to Limerick is 2hrs 20mins and prices range from €12 to an average of €30 each way. From Cork journey time is typically 1hr 45mins and fares average at €15-20 each way.
