Bernie Sanders | A Brooklyn Spirit

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders  in conversation with Fintan O’Toole.
The Public Theatre, Trinity College, Dublin.
Friday, February 16th, 2024.
Doors open 7.30pm, conversation beginning from 8pm.

The longest-serving independent Senator in U.S. political history, Bernie Sanders has, for the past decade, held an increasingly remarkable position in international politics – lifting and brightening the debate on social policy, and connecting deeply with people the world over as a result.

Elevated to this reputation during two ground-breaking campaigns for the White House, and through the policies he advanced and messages of community he promoted, he is arguably the most prominent voice and recognisable face of a more equal, empathic and people-focused politics. Bernie conjures ideas of that possibility, of a tireless drive for basic fairness in our economies and societies, and a striving for decency and compassion in our understandings of one another. He is the rare politician known simply, admiringly, by his first name.

Following the release of his current book, ‘It’s OK to be Angry About Capitalism’, Bernie has been discussing the coming political period in interviews across the U.S. and Europe. I.NY | The Ireland New York Project and Catapult welcome him to Trinity College’s Public Theatre for a conversation with award-winning journalist and author Fintan O’Toole, to explore his own story – his Brooklyn upbringing, his Washington journey, his life in Vermont with an Irish-heritage family, and the values and vision that underpin his work, ground his political commitment and fuel his dynamic sense of what could be.
